Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from that period of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
